Michael Wayne Donner

Mr. Michael Wayne Donner is a retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces having served for just over 31 years. He has been an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion since 1988. For many years, Mr. Donner has remained very involved with Legion activities. In 1997, Mr. Donner was the local arrangement Chair for the Legion’s Alberta/Northwest Territories convention, held in Medicine Hat and attended by approximately one thousand delegates. He has served in executive positions with his branch, including president, first and second vice-president, and chair of many of the committees. He served as Zone Commander from 2000 to 2005 for Zone 4, District 6. From 2005 to 2009, Mr. Donner took over as Commander of District 6 and also served for four years on the Leadership and Development Committee and two years as co-chair on the Membership Committee. These roles required a significant time commitment and a great deal of travel to branches around the district to assist them with their various needs. Mr. Donner has also served with many committees with the command, including as chairman of the Sports, Poppy, Membership and Youth Committees. This, once again, required a significant time commitment. In 2013, Mr. Donner was elected president of the Alberta/Northwest Territories Command. During this time, he worked diligently with the Command Council to address issues and move the command forward. Also as president, he was asked to serve on the Dominion Executive Council and the Dominion Poppy Committee. Currently, Mr. Donner sits as the immediate past-president of the command and continues to be the chair of the Command Poppy Committee and Ritual and Awards. Mr. Donner continues to support his local Robertson Memorial Branch #17 and volunteers willingly in the community of Medicine Hat. This past winter he was an Ambassador for the Alberta Winter Games and has volunteered as chaperone for the Alberta/NWT Youth Track and Field teams for several years as they have competed at the National level throughout Canada. Mr. Donner never hesitates to step up and volunteer when needed.
