Trois-Rivières, Quebec
The daughter of a Second World War and Korean War Veteran, Mrs. Allard has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for many years. Though she has had to temporarily stop her volunteer work for health reasons, she left her mark on Branch #35. Always mindful of the well-being of Veterans, she held the title of 2nd vice president and chairwoman of the Poppy Campaign for three years. During her time as Chairwoman, fundraising was enormously successful because Mrs. Allard was able to garner support from the Editor of Le Nouvelliste daily paper, the head of the Trois Rivières Port Authority and the Dean of l'Université du Québec à Trois-Rivière. Each of these three individuals took a turn as honorary president during a Poppy Campaign. Their support certainly had an impact on the visibility of the Legion in Mauricie, and brought about renewed interest in Veterans. Mrs. Allard also took the initiative of organizing the distribution of Christmas baskets to Veterans and their families. For some, the basket was the only gift they received over the holidays. In addition, Mrs. Allard has been the emcee at numerous Remembrance Day ceremonies over the years, a role she carried out with tact and dignity. Her devotion and perseverance make us proud. She has been a role model to her peers in Branch #35.
