Mr. Gilles Grossinger served 30 years in the Canadian Forces, achieving the rank of major. He is a longstanding and active member of The Royal Canadian Legion and received his Life Membership in 1999. Mr. Grossinger has served as 1st vice president and is currently serving his second term as President of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #254. He is also President of the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping, Yukon Division. Mr. Grossinger is well known and well respected in the Whitehorse community, giving generously of his time to causes close to his heart. He acts as a remembrance speaker at schools in Whitehorse and is a member of the Yukon Council on Aging. He has been Chair of the Poppy Campaign since 2003, as well as the Sergeant-at-Arms and Parade Marshall for Remembrance Day ceremonies since 2000. Mr. Grossinger was a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal in 2009.
