Mr. Robert George

Barrie, Ontario

Mr. George served 20 years in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). After leaving the military, he returned to the Barrie area and joined the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping, Central Ontario Chapter, and now serves as the Chapter Vice President. Mr. George is an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) and the Veterans’ Club of Barrie. He has been instrumental in promoting the Peacekeepers Park in Angus, Ontario, and has had local high school students assist in producing of an information booklet on the park. Mr. George was the key player in finalizing the 40-year lease for the park with the Township of Essa and the local RCL Branch. He was also instrumental in having the park designated a Military Memorial. He encouraged Home Depot in Barrie, and Home Hardware in Angus, to donate building material and sandbags to construct three symbolic guard posts for the park. Mr. George has spoken at many high schools on Remembrance Day, and as a member of the Memory Project, to educate students on the role of Canadian peacekeepers. In his role as Commander for the Peacekeepers’ Contingent, he attends many ceremonies, including the annual Peacekeepers’ Day and Remembrance Day parades. Mr. George is presently engaged in a special project to add a walkway and stations within Peacekeepers Park describing the various missions conducted by Canadians.
