Muriel Westmorland

Ms. Westmorland is a distinguished academic who has assisted Veterans and Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) in many ways. In 1998, Ms. Westmorland was invited to attend a departmental roundtable on Veterans Health based on her background in Rehabilitation and Return to Work for Persons with Disabilities Research. In 1999, Ms. Westmorland sat on the first VAC-CFAC Advisory council where she chaired the research committee and contributed to the "Opportunity with Security" report by submitting information on Disability Management and proofreading it. She also visited all Canadian Forces bases in Ontario, as well as Shearwater and Greenwood in Nova Scotia where she met with spouses of serving members to solicit their concerns related to military life and provision of support to families. From 2007 to 2009 she chaired the New Veterans Charter Advisory Group which produced the report "Honouring Canada's Commitment to Veterans and their Families: The New Veterans Charter in Action". In 2011, Ms.Westmorland was an advisory member to the Veterans Affairs Canada Stakeholders Committee and was an affiliate member of the Veterans Ombudsman Advisory Committee. Ms. Westmorland's contributions to the well-being of Veterans have resulted in the modernization of services and benefits to Veterans and their families.
