Murray C. Edwards

Deputy Minister Walter Natynczyk presents the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation to Murray C. Edwards with family friend Mrs. Lorraine Schoor. Major Edwards is a Veteran of the Second World War, the Korean War and the Canadian Armed Forces. He is currently the British Columbia Director for the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping (CAVUNP), the Vice President of the Mark Isfeld Memorial Chapter of CAVUNP where he helped have a cenotaph built at both Oakbay and Central Saanich, a member of the Korea Veterans Association (KVA), a member of the Airborne Association, and he serves as the Victoria Director for the International Community for the Relief of Starvation and Suffering Canada. Mr. Murray is often asked by the University of Victoria for his views and observations of the military and in particular, his experiences in Korea. Although Mr. Murray is in his 90s, his mind is still sharp as a tack and he continues to participate in ceremonial parades and is a wreath layer at the Saanich Cenotaph. There is no Legion branch in Saanichton, so Mr. Edwards and other Veterans organize the solemn wreath-laying ceremonies each year. He annually attends and represents the KVA at Veterans Affairs’ God’s Acre cemetery and participates in Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry cadet activities. Mr. Murray attends the annual Canada Day Parade and continues to represent PK Veterans at that parade. Mr. Edwards also visits ailing Veterans in hospital.
