Nancy M. Siew

Vaughan, Ontario

Nancy Siew is nominated for her many years of work with the Veterans community.

She organized a photo exhibition for the 150th anniversary of the Royal Hong Kong Regiment. Part of the exhibition was focused on the Canadian Veterans who fought alongside the regiment.

She regularly participates and sponsors the attendance of Veterans to events of all kinds, including the Ottawa Defence Conference and Student Graduate Symposium in Kingston, the Vimy Award Gala Dinner, Servicewomen’s appreciation events, the Afghanistan Memorial re-dedication ceremony, national sporting events and remembrance ceremonies throughout Canada.

She recently completed a pictorial book which contains portraits of more than twenty Second World War and Korean War Veterans and is translated into both Chinese and English, with the French version pending. The book is to be donated to schools and libraries for younger generations.

In 2018, she organized an “Asian Heritage Dinner” for 400 guests, 150 of whom were Veterans who were given a place of honour at the tables. A surplus of over $3,000 was generated and donated to the Homeless Project at the Legion.

Recently, she has begun a huge undertaking to build a “Mini-village” for homeless Veterans. While still in the early stages of planning, she has received support from The Royal Canadian Legion, Army Navy and Air Force Veterans of Canada, Habitat for Humanity, Renos for Heroes and has engaged with federal, provincial and municipal government officials.
