Norman Bédard served in the Canadian Forces for more than 30 years which included seven peacekeeping missions. Upon his retirement, he became very active in his mission to increase the recognition of Veterans. He is a very active member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 372. In addition to his involvement in the annual Poppy Campaign, he coordinates five separate Remembrance Day parades in the communities of Russell, Limoges, Embrun, Vars and Casselman. More recently, Mr. Bédard raised over $12,000, which was used to add a new walkway, benches and dedication plaques to refurbish the cenotaph in Casselman. The new site was unveiled on September 23, 2006 and stands as a testament to his deep commitment to Canada’s Veterans. Mr. Bédard’s strong voluntarism and leadership skills were also demonstrated in 2004 when he almost singlehandedly created 2804 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps in Casselman. He continues to serve as the Sponsor’s representative and is heavily involved in the day-to-day activities of the Corps.
