Mr. Reid is a Second World War Veteran. He is a member of the Admiral Murray Branch of the Royal Canadian Naval Association, and past member of his local Royal Canadian Legion branch. Mr. Reid was responsible for the Thorburn Veterans Memorial, which features a cenotaph, aircraft and plaques with the names of local servicepersons who died during the First and Second World Wars. For 25 years, he mowed the lawn, ensured names were added to the plaques annually and repaired and replaced the flags. In addition, Mr. Reid was instrumental in securing funds for the memorial’s upkeep through his hard work and dedication.
