Calgary, Alberta
Mr. Morgan is a naval reservist. For the past ten years, Mr. Morgan has been volunteering to assist Veterans in Southern Alberta. From helping out with the Poppy Fund Campaign, to collecting food for the Veterans’ food bank, to being the master of ceremonies for the Battle of the Atlantic ceremony, he always makes time to support Veterans. This past year marked the Naval Centennial and Mr. Morgan wanted to ensure that Veterans with mobility issues could be part of the occasion. He volunteered to organize a special “mess style” dinner for the Veterans at the Colonel Belcher Hospital and the palliative care unit in Calgary. Mr. Morgan arranged for a family member to be there for each Veteran. Some of the Veterans had never experienced a mess dinner, and attendees saw families connect with their aging parents and grandparents. Officers of HMCS Tecumseh and HMCS Calgary were there to honour the Veterans. Mr. Morgan arranged for 15 volunteers to serve dinner to the Veterans and their guests. He also raised funds for wine and port so that the appropriate toasts could be made. The result was a special evening with stories and memories shared by all. Mr. Morgan’s energy and enthusiasm are an inspiration to those Canadians who aim to ensure the contributions of our Veterans are remembered for all time.
