Mr. Guthrie immigrated to Canada in 1951. He served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Regina Branch #001 where he is Past President. For many years, Mr. Guthrie has been the Service Officer for the Branch, and all requests for assistance, both individual and institutional, from the Welfare Account have been directed to him. He has been the Legion representative on the City Cemetery Committee for many years, and Mr. Guthrie was instrumental in re-naming the Soldiers' plots in both cemeteries to The Veterans' Field of Honour. Mr. Guthrie was instrumental in having cement work completed at the Cross of Sacrifice, and he ensures flowers are planted every Spring in the Veterans' area of Riverside Memorial Gardens. He organizes the Liquor Store Poppy Canvass and looks after a downtown commercial route during the Poppy Campaign. On Friday evenings he assists with the meat draw. Mr. Guthrie is currently on a committee planning a Welcome Home event for the Veterans returning from Afghanistan.
