Philip McKerry

Mr. Philip McKerry is a retired Lieutenant of “A” Squadron British Columbia Dragoons, as well as a retired member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He is a longstanding active member of The Royal Canadian Legion. While a member of the Airdrie Branch, Mr. McKerry had the Legion sponsor an Army Cadet Corps for youth 12–18 years of age, under his leadership. When he moved to Evansburg, Alberta, and transferred to Branch #196, he had that Legion sponsor another Cadet Corps, for which he is the Commanding Officer. Each summer, Mr. McKerry is a Captain Instructor at various Cadet camps. The Cadets help with Branch activities and with the Poppy Campaign. Knowing the Army Cadet movement is an excellent motivator for teenagers, Mr. McKerry ensures the Cadets are fully aware of the sacrifices of all serving members past and present. Mr. McKerry has also served on the Executive of Branch #196. He became Branch president in 2006 and currently serves as 1st Vice-President. Mr. McKerry has also served on the Poppy Campaign for the past 14 years. He is a service officer and attends annual Remembrance Day ceremonies at local schools.
