Pierre Gauthier

Mr. Gauthier is a Veteran of the Second World War who served in the Régiment de la Chaudière. He was deployed in England and took part in the Normandy Landing on June 6, 1944. He returned to France in 2004 for the ceremonies marking the 60th anniversary of the Normandy Landing. He is recognized for his involvement in the community of Chambly. Mr. Gauthier is a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and spent 6 years as President and 2 years as Vice President of Branch 34 in Chambly, where he was honoured as a Life Member. Mr. Gauthier was also Legionnaire of the Year for Quebec in 2005. He actively participates in events to promote and commemorate the commitment of our Veterans and their memory. He is also involved in the Memory Project, which is designed to make young students aware of the achievements of Veterans, share military experiences and keep the legacy of this turning point in our history alive. Mr. Gauthier is active in the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School and, as Past President of Branch 34, he presents the Legion trophy to candidates every second week during the end-of-course ceremonies. He also helped plan the events of September 25, 2005, which included including an impressive parade to mark the Year of the Veteran, during which he was one of the Veterans honoured.
