Pierre Lefebvre

Salaberry de Valleyfield, Quebec

Mr. Pierre Lefebvre is a former member of the Canadian Forces and continues to serve in the Reserves as an Officer in the Cadet Instructor Cadre (CIC). Mr. Lefebvre actively supports the organizing of remembrance ceremonies at the Salaberry de Valleyfield Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion where he has been a member for over 20 years. Mr. Lefebvre holds the memory of HMCS Valleyfield (K 329) close to his heart, which led him to found the Valleyfield (329) Sea Cadet Corps and the Salaberry (182) Navy League Cadets Corps, to trace survivors of the shipwreck and to commemorate the ship by awarding a survivors' trophy to a deserving cadet each year. In 2000, Mr. Lefebvre succeeded in having a monument created in Delpha-Sauvé Park in Salaberry de Valleyfield in memory of HMCS Valleyfield. Many dignitaries and survivors of the shipwreck were present at the monument's unveiling. Mr. Lefebvre is currently writing a book on the history of the frigate HMCS Valleyfield to share its story with a greater audience. Dedicated to encouraging remembrance among youth, Mr. Lefebvre regularly visits schools and cadet corps in order to speak to youth about the sacrifices and achievements of those who have served Canada.
