Mr. Gilbert is a Veteran of the King’s Own Calgary Regiment (KOCR) and served in Dieppe. Following retirement in 1984, he became actively involved in The Military Museums (TMM) in 1990, including the KOCR Museum. Every Thursday, Mr. Gilbert hosts many members of the public and school children with tours of the regimental museum. He has patiently allowed himself to be interviewed by many graduate students, historians, media representatives and post-secondary institutions. Mr. Gilbert has also assisted the Education Department at TMM with evening groups such as Scouts and Beavers. Mr. Gilbert has volunteered as an outreach speaker during Remembrance Day Ceremonies at schools and for other interest groups. He continues to be actively involved with his regiment as a link to the past and can be found at many of their mess gatherings. Mr. Gilbert’s approachability, outgoing personality and candidness with the public make him a highly valued volunteer at the museums.
