Mr. Thibault is a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces. He has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion since 1959 and has presided for more than 25 years over a commit-tee with the mandate to support veterans and their families. Mr. Thibault’s determination and dedication to veterans’ causes has led him to organize Remembrance Day activities in the Matane regional county municipality for over 40 years. For Legion Branch 130, he is the president of the Poppy Campaign, which strives to raise awareness around the im-portance of commemoration and the needs of veterans. Mr. Thibault is the branch presi-dent and chairman of a branch committee tasked with producing a memory project. The committee hopes to conduct research on all inhabitants of the Matane RCM who died serv-ing their country and inscribe their names on the Matane cenotaph. Mr. Thibault is a mem-ber of the Memory Project for the Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie, as part of which talks are given to high school students and cadets with the goal of educating them about events that have marked Canadian history over the past century.
