(R.H.) Robert Thomson

Mr. Thomson is a well-known Canadian film, television and stage actor, as well as an ardent supporter of Canada's Veterans. In 1995 he narrated a three-part Canada Remembers documentary about Canada's involvement during times of conflict. In 2007, to coincide with the 90th anniversary of the Battle at Vimy Ridge, Mr. Thomson co-created the Vimy vigil of remembrance at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. Due to Mr. Thomson's dedication and persistence, along with co-creator, Martin Conboy, the names of 3,598 Canadians who lost their lives in battle were illuminated on the face of the Memorial. Canadians across the country were able to view the names online. Mr. Thomson offered his enthusiasm, energy and talent as a member of the Vimy Monument Conservation Advisory Committee. The restored Monument was rededicated in April 2007, as part of the 90th anniversary. In 2008 he co-created the 1914-1918 Vigil, a project that saw the names of more than 68,000 Canadians who died during the First World War projected onto memorials and buildings across Canada. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was gracious in opening the 2008 Vigil in London, England at Canada House. As a personal project for the HMCS Sackville Memorial Trust, Mr. Thomson has been interviewing the surviving members of HMCS Sackville and will give the filmed interviews to the Trust. Whenever called upon, Mr. Thomson is ready and willing to speak to the contribution and sacrifice of Canada's Veterans.
