Mr. Campbell is an amateur historian and the founding president of the Canada Veterans Hall of Valour in Carleton Place. In the mid-1990s, Mr. Campbell undertook a personal mission to raise awareness about the service and sacrifices of Canada’s Veterans. Calling on friends, colleagues, parliamentarians, business leaders and others who would support the project, he rallied like-minded and passionate Canadians into creating a home where Veterans could be constantly honoured and remembered for being real heroes. Carleton Place was a natural fit for the Hall of Valour. It’s the birth place of First World War flying ace Captain A. Roy Brown, who is credited with shooting down the infamous Red Baron, German pilot Manfred von Richthofen. It’s a community home to a large number of retired and serving military personnel; and it has produced a surprising number of authors who have written about military history and the role Canada’s brave men and women have played. The Hall of Valour officially opened in the Victoria School Museum in 2005. It features portraits and biographies of Canadian men and women who received valour awards and offers a wonderful learning opportunity for area school children and all citizens. Each year, a ceremony is held whereby three or more Veterans are publicly inducted into the Canada Veterans Hall of Honour.
