Robert Gray

Calgary, Alberta

Mr. Gray is a Veteran of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, having served for 15 years. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 47 years and a member of The Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada (ANAVETS) for 26 years. While in Calgary, Mr. Gray served on the Legion Executive and reached the position of President of his Branch. He was then elected to the Alberta/Northwest Territories Command of the Legion, eventually becoming President. Mr. Gray served at Dominion Command in Ottawa for ten years. The Committee he served on lobbied Veterans Affairs Canada for improved services and programs for Veterans in need. Mr. Gray was also a member of the committee on the repatriation of The Unknown Soldier. Mr. Gray has been actively involved in recreation activities for Veterans in the Colonel Belcher Hospital. He served on the steering committee and was actively involved in fundraising for the construction of the new Colonel Belcher Veterans Lodge. In 2004, Mr. Gray escorted ten youth to Europe to visit battlefields so they might learn more about the sacrifice of Canada's Veterans. Mr. Gray continues to serve the Veteran community as President of the Forest Lawn Legion Branch and as a trustee of Unit #2 of ANAVETS. He is recording secretary for the Canadian Métis Veterans Association and a trustee of the Calgary Poppy Trust Fund. Among numerous honours, Mr. Gray is the recipient of the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award for his volunteer activities.
