Mr. Studholme joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943 and went overseas a year later when he was posted to 419 Squadron flying Halifax and Lancaster bombers. He joined the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 23 in 1948 and, while he no longer serves on the executive, he continues to serve on various committees including the Sick and Visiting. Mr. Studholme is a Life Member of the 406 Wing RCAF and he has been instrumental in its operations ever since, including two terms as President. Mr. Studholme has also made a large contribution to the success of several major commemoration projects. First, he worked on The Wall of Honour, unveiled in 1995, which is a memorial to the 129 airmen from North Bay and District who gave their lives during the Second World War. Then, he was elected Chair of a Committee which went on to build a new Memorial Wall to honour all Veterans from the North Bay area who served, fought and died in all the wars of the 20th century in which Canada participated. The names of 640 men and women who died were inscribed on the Wall which was dedicated in November 2000 with more than 2,000 people in attendance. At the rear of the 95 foot wide wall there are 730 commemorative stones with the names of the Veterans who survived the wars. Mr. Studholme is a member of the Memory Project and he visits schools throughout the year to talk to students about Canada’s Veterans. He received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 2002.
