Following in his family’s tradition of military service, Captain Redmond joined the Canadian Forces in 1973. He has also been active with the Canadian Cadet movement presently a serving Officer and former Commanding Officer of 253 Claude Nunney VC Squadron. Mr. Redmond is dedicated to promoting Canada’s military heritage, bringing attention to the service and sacrifice of Aboriginal Veterans. He assisted in the organization of the Aboriginal Spiritual Journey which took place in the Fall of 2005. His outstanding contribution has been recognized by the National Aboriginal Veterans Association which presented him with the Aboriginal Veterans Millennium Medal, Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Merit Clasp to the MSM. In addition, he is a recipient of the Honoured Veterans Award from the Métis National Council and was awarded the Past Officer Medal from the Royal Canadian Legion for his work as Honours Secretary. He is also an Officer of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem and a Golden Jubilee Medal recipient. Mr. Redmond continues to be deeply involved in Veterans issues as a founding member and immediate past President of the Métis Nation of Ontario Veterans Council. Mr. Redmond is also an active member of the Odawa Aboriginal Veterans Circle in Ottawa.
