Mr. Svend Hansen is a Second World War Veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy. Since 2004, Mr. Hansen has volunteered many hundreds of hours as a guest speaker with Historica Canada’s Memory Project. He has made approximately 70 presentations so far and, even at the age of 92, has no plans of slowing down. Mr. Hansen averages seven to eight presentations annually and speaks to all ages. These events involve Mr. Hansen travelling throughout the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, speaking to rotary clubs, cadet organizations, and many schools. His presentations are greatly appreciated, as is demonstrated by a thank-you card he received from a class who recently attended his presentation. Mr. Hansen has volunteered significant amounts of his time to providing a first-hand account of the war and passing on stories of the sacrifices, horror and, eventually, peace that he experienced during his service.
