Thomas Wood

A Veteran of the Second World War, Mr. Wood has been an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) for the past 53 years. During this period, he has served in several positions, including those of Executive Officer, 1st Vice-President, Past President, Service Officer and Visitation Chairman. Mr. Wood has a keen interest in the well-being of Veterans and has visited them at the local hospital as well as in their homes, offering them comfort, encouragement and compassion. Mr. Wood has dedicated much time to helping Veterans, providing them with guidance in applying for programs and benefits they so richly deserve. He is also well-known and respected by the areas' schools for his many presentations on Remembrance, history of the Poppy and the history of our National War Memorial in Ottawa. Mr. Wood was a member of the committee which worked with the local public school on their Tulip Tribute-Shore to Shore, as part of the 1994-1995 Canada Remembers commemoration program. For several years he has taken an active part in the Legion's Remembrance Day church service and has assisted with the Remembrance Day service at the local Senior's home. Mr. Wood is a tireless volunteer, who exercises a compassionate approach in handling delicate matters and in providing assistance to Veterans, seniors, youth and the disabled. In recognition of his life-long work for the Legion on behalf of Veterans, Mr. Wood was presented with a Certificate of Merit from the Ontario Provincial Command.
