Vera Jean Morgan

Islington, Ontario

A veteran of the Second World War, Mrs. Morgan has been an active member of the Canadian Women's Army Corps (CWAC), under the umbrella of the Canadian Corps Association, for the past 50 years. Since the early 1990's, Mrs. Morgan has held several positions simultaneously in the association, including those of President, Secretary, Refreshment Chairman, and has been the author and editor of the Association's bi-monthly magazine. As well, Mrs. Morgan has been extensively involved in fund-raising activities for the benefit of veterans at Sunnybrook Hospital, on such occasions as veterans' birthdays and social functions. During her regular hospital visits, Mrs. Morgan reads to veterans, helps them with their correspondence and organizes social events, including the popular weekly bingos. Due to the decline in membership at the CWAC, Mrs. Morgan organized the Association's final dinner in September 2004. All monies left-over in the account were donated to the Shirley Wood-Heesaker Scholarship - the founder and first President of the Association.
