Victor Marshall

North Carolina, Quebec

Mr. Marshall served in the Canadian Army, Air Force and Navy, all in a reserve capacity, and received his commission in the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve in 1965. He currently resides in North Carolina, USA, where he is a Professor of Sociology at the University of North Carolina. He is a distinguished academic and has assisted Veterans and Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) in many ways. From 1997 to 2010, Mr. Marshall chaired the Gerontological Advisory Council for VAC. Under his direction, this council produced a report titled "Keeping the Promise. The Future of Health Benefits for Canada’s War Veterans. We Have Not Forgotten and We Will Not Forget." All of the recommendations in this report were accepted and endorsed by the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs. From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Marshall was a member of the New Veterans Charter Advisory Group. He participated and contributed to the Operational Stress Injury Social Support / Mental Health Advisory Committee and the Veterans Affairs Canada–Canadian Forces Council Advisory Group. In 2011, he was an advisory member to the Veterans Affairs Canada Stakeholders Committee.
