Retired Warrant Officer Dusty Rhodes is a Veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces. He served for over 33 years and retired in the functions of Sergeant-Major.
Mr. Rhodes has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 27 years and currently holds the position of President of Branch 285, the largest Legion branch by membership in Canada. He has volunteered countless hours with the Legion, Veterans and the Poppy Campaign, and he is a Poppy Trustee for the Calgary Area Poppy Fund under the Alberta-Northwest Territories Command. He has been the Command’s Sergeant-at-Arms, as well as the parade commander for both the Command convention and the Poppy Campaign parades. He has been actively involved as his local Legion’s branch Sergeant-at-Arms, the Housing and Maintenance Coordinator in the Tuberculosis Veterans Section, honourary member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, which raises funds with the community and the Branch to support Veterans and their families.
Mr. Rhodes is an active member of the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping (CAVUNP), the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Calgary Highlanders Sergeants’ and Warrant Officers’ Mess, and the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada Association (ANAVETS). He is also a former Pipe Major of the Regimental Pipes and Drums of Calgary Highlanders. He spends hundreds of hours volunteering with these different organizations, assisting with events, fundraising, collecting and transporting donations for the Veterans’ Food Bank, serving meals at Veterans’ dinners as well as many other activities that raise funds or support Veterans in the community who are suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. Mr. Rhodes also represents Veterans and the Legion at numerous community and public events.
