Reverend Hyland is a retired Padre who was a commissioned officer in the Canadian Navy and he went on to serve as Principal of the Lahr High School where he taught the children of Canadian Forces personnel. He is currently a Minister and Board Member of the Queensway Pentecostal Church in Espanola. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 432 in Massey and he also serves as the Padre and the First Vice President for the War Pensioners of Canada. With his sense of humour and down to earth manner, Reverend Hyland is able to establish an easy rapport with Veterans during his regular visits at their homes, in the hospitals and nursing homes. Reverend Hyland is also a member of the Veterans Dedication Plaque Committee which have been responsible for attaching the "Lest We Forget" plaque to hundreds of Veteran grave markers in the Espanola, Manitoulin and North Shore areas.
