Mr. Wayne Kennedy retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1978. Since his retirement, Mr. Kennedy has been fully committed to working on behalf of Veterans. He is currently serving as the national membership director for the Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association (CPVA), a position which he has held for the previous eight years. He has also been the regional director for the association in Alberta for the previous thirteen years. As national membership director, Mr. Kennedy has taken charge of communicating important issues to Veterans and ensuring they receive the assistance they deserve. He has been personally responsible for helping many Veterans obtain their benefits. As Alberta region director, he has organized fundraisers for Veterans, coordinates the annual National Peacekeepers Day parades for the Alberta chapters, assists with the operation of Alberta chapters, and encourages the formation of new chapters of the association. Mr. Kennedy is a founding member of the West Central Alberta and the Edmonton chapters of the CPVA. Mr. Kennedy has also been very involved with The Royal Canadian Legion, serving for two years as the branch president and has sat in each of the executive positions at various points. Today, he serves as the poppy chair and as service officer. Mr. Kennedy has been a competent leader with his Legion, resulting in improved services for Veterans. He has also been involved with the organization and coordination of Veterans’ Week events for more than ten years and has organized an annual dinner in remembrance of Victory in Europe Day for the last ten years.
