Nanaimo, British Columbia
Mr. McFadden is a former British Royal Naval Reserve member who now volunteers most of his time with programs that honour Veterans and contribute to Remembrance. He is Vice-President and Communications Director for the Vancouver Island Military Museum. Mr. McFadden was instrumental in organizing ceremonies and static displays in 2008, 2009 and 2010 Remembrance Day activities, held at the Nanaimo North Town Centre Mall. This required the coordination of Veterans, RCMP and still-serving CAF members, cadets, government officials, a piper and choir. As a volunteer since 1998 and full-time volunteer during 2011-2013, Mr. McFadden worked at the military museum five days a week, restructuring the exhibits and displays during their relocation to a new facility. Mr. McFadden has created a comprehensive advertising campaign to promote the museum and, ultimately, the preservation of Canada’s military history and cultural heritage. He has also supported the museum’s education program, which encourages schools and youth organizations to visit the museum and understand the role of Canada’s Veterans, both past and present.
