Mr. Burrell is a Veteran of the Second World War. Mr. Burrell is a longstanding member of The Royal Canadian Legion and has been chair of the Legion's Poppy Fund for over 10 years. Each year he guides a large group of volunteers to consistently raise approximately $60,000 for the fund which supports Veterans and their families as well as the local hospital and the purchase of medical equipment for the community. Mr. Burrell has spent much of his life involved in amateur hockey, both locally and provincially, where he promotes the concept of remembrance to young people on the teams as well as engaging them and the teams in commemorative activities in the city of Brampton. Mr. Burrell is a perfect example of the selfless service for which Canadian Veterans are known and he continues to make a difference in his community.
