Mr. Bill Harris, a Second World War Veterans, has his Life Membership in The Royal Canadian Legion. He received the Meritorious Service Medal in 1993 and, most recently, in September 2006, he received the Palm Leaf. In 1984, as a Service Officer with the Legion, Mr. Harris organized two musical concerts at Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre. Four years later, in 1988, Mr. Harris initiated and organized a family picnic for residents and their families at Sunnybrook. These picnics became an annual event at Sunnybrook and still take place today. That same year, Mr. Harris along with two other Legion members, set up a trust fund for needy Veterans. For forty years, Mr. Harris has given generously his time and effort by driving Veterans and their spouses to hospital and medical appointments. He has worked tirelessly assisting Veterans and their dependents in obtaining pension benefits to which they are entitled.
