Mr. Tait served 40 years in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), including service in Vietnam and tours with the US Air Force and the US Army. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) for 28 years and Branch 100 for the past 20 years. Mr. Tait is also a member of the Army, Navy, and Air Force Veterans Association for the past 25 years. He has held many positions on the Branch 100 executive, twice as president, several years as past president, and is currently Chairman. He has served on the Local Arrangement Committee as chairman of the parade and cenotaph ceremony in 1998 and 2010. For several years, Mr. Tait has planned and coordinated the annual Remembrance Day ceremonies for the Branch and Charleswood community, and he participates in annual Remembrance Day ceremonies at the local schools and care homes. Mr. Tait has performed the Legion tribute at the funerals of more than 100 Veterans. He is also the direct liaison with CF Base 17 Wing and 402 Squadron Winnipeg to coordinate the delivery of individualized Christmas gifts to Veterans in local care homes. Mr. Tait initiated and received approval for the “Adopt a Veteran Program” in 2013 to make this an annual event. He received the Legion Life Membership in 2001, the Legion Meritorious Service Medal in 2004, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal in 2013.
