William Tanner

Peachland, British Columbia

As a member of The Royal Canadian Legion since1946, Mr. Tanner has assisted countless Veterans in obtaining access to many Government of Canada programs and services. Oftentimes, the Veterans' health made it difficult or impossible to contact the Government on their own behalf. Most notable among Mr. Tanner's accomplishment are his efforts in obtaining recognition, from the Department of National Defence in 2004, for more than 3500 Veterans or their survivors who participated in chemical warfare experiments in Suffield, Alberta between the 1940s and the 1970s. Mr. Tanner is a life member of the Air Force Association of Canada and was the 883 Wing's first Vice-President. He is also a member of the Army Navy and Airforce Association of Canada. As Vice President of the Markham and District Veterans Association in 1967, Mr. Tanner was instrumental in working with the City to erect its first and only cenotaph.
