William A. Webster

Mr. Webster is a Veteran of the Second World War. Mr. Webster has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion since 1960 and has served in various positions on the Executive over the years and is a representative for Parkwood Veterans Hospital in London. In addition to his work with the Legion and Parkwood Hospital, Mr. Webster has been actively involved in remembrance ceremonies by making wooden poppy crosses. It began in 1993 after he attended a local ceremony and noticed all the poppies placed at the cenotaph blowing away. He then began making wooden poppy crosses and they were first used at the following Remembrance Day Ceremony in 1994. Since then, Mr. Webster has made approximately 50,000 poppy crosses which have been placed on Veterans' graves around the world, including the many graves visited by Veterans Affairs Canada during commemorative events. Mr. Webster has been invested as a Commander of the Order of St. John.
