In 2006, 34 Combat Engineer Regiment (34 CER) was created through the merging of 3 Field Engineer Regiment (3 FER) and 9e Escadron de genie, in Rouyn-Noranda. At that time, 3 FER was composed of 4th Field Squadron and 16th Field Squadron. All field squadrons of 34 CER, served overseas during the Second World War while 4th and 16th Field squadrons also served during the First World War.
4th and 16th Field squadrons were previously known as field companies. 34 Combat Engineer Regiment Bailey Bridge Monument has more history of the regiment.
