Veterans Memorial Garden was created by the War Memorial Site Committee as part of the Canada 150 celebrations. The committee had the full endorsement of Branch 41 of the Royal Canadian Legion and of the City of St. Thomas who owns the project when completed. 

The St. Thomas-Elgin War Memorial Project graciously and respectfully recognizes the sacrifice of so many from St. Thomas and Elgin County made during human conflicts. On October 28, 2017, the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario officially opened the Veterans Memorial Garden. 

There are maple leaves pressed into the pavement throughout the garden. Two memorials were moved to the garden and a new memorial was added. Located in Veterans Memorial Garden are: St. Thomas Cenotaph, Elgin County First World War MemorialAfghanistan Memorial
