He married Mary Jane Taylor January 28th, 1899 (her maiden name was also Taylor) and they had six children - Clifton, Mary, Alice Jim, Esther and Harry.
At the time of his death his family was living at 451 1/2 Riverdale Ave., Ottawa.
He served 12 years in the Lancashire Fusiliers - joining in 1891 at age 19 and discharged 12 years later in 1903 at age 31. He served one year abroad (during Boer War) and was in the Mounted Infantry in 1895 and 1897.
He emigrated to Canada arriving in July 1910 and the rest of the family arriving in October 1910.

CONTAY BRITISH CEMETERY Somme, France
Contay is a village in the Department of the Somme on the main road, Amiens to Arras. The CONTAY BRITISH CEMETERY lies on the left (north east) side of the road to Franvillers. There are no access problems. There is a CWGC road sign next to the church and square of the village and next to the D23, Franvillers - Corbie, sign. The distance from the CWGC sign to the Cemetery is approximately 650 metres.
