Baptized Joseph Édouard Clément. Son of Édouard Clément (deceased 1900-1910) and Joséphine St-Jacques, of Montréal, Québec. He also named his sister Maud (wife of Alfred Lortie) of Montréal, as next of kin.

Édouard initially enrolled with the 12th Battalion and travelled to England with this Battalion. In February 1915 he joined the 14th Battalion in France and in September 1916, after a face injury, he was evacuated in England, where he spent more than ten months. In June 1917, he went back to France, joining the 22nd Battalion.

He died in the 5th Canadian Field Ambulance on 24 September 1917 of wounds (skull fracture) sustained in action at Méricourt during the Battle of Lens, France, on Hill 70, and was buried on the 29th.

THELUS MILITARY CEMETERY Pas de Calais, France

Thelus is a village in the Department of the Pas-de-Calais, west of the N17 Arras-Lens main road and 6.5 kilometres north of Arras. Thelus Military Cemetery is approximately 300 metres west of the N17, located in the open country, about 50 metres north of Thelus village.
