In the family bible, Ruby was spelled as Rubye Charles Hill. He was christened at St. Marks Church in Longueuil, Quebec on 2 January 1982. He was the seventh of nine children, the son of James and Mary Hill who are now buried in Mt. Royal Cemetery in Outremont, Quebec. He had nine siblings: William - 6th Hussars, Albert, Arthur, Clara, Ernest, Harvey, Ida and Olive. He was single. He was a libaririan and played hockey. He was wounded three days before he died.
