Son of Benjamin Thomas and Elizabeth Hobday, of Bunces Farm, Ashburnham, Battle, Sussex, England. He stated he was single and employed as a butler. His brother, Lt. Steven George Hobday, 3rd Battalion also lost his life on October 8, 1916 and is commemorated on the Vimy Monument.
