Frederick Augustine Rose was born 16 May 1897 in St. John's, Newfoundland to William & Mary (nee Quigley) Rose. Fred went to Iroquois Falls where he worked as a butcher. While there he joined the Second Central Ontario Regiment on 6 December 1916. He was killed in action during the Second Battle of Arras in France 3 Sep 1918. He left behind in Newfoundland a wife, Ellen (Breen) Rose, and two small children: William and Mary. -

His name as it is inscribed on the Vimy Memorial. Over 11,000 fallen Canadians having no known place of burial in France, are honoured on this Memorial. May they never be forgotten. (J. Stephens) -
