Photo of Norman Sayer
Norman Sayer served in the First World War, starting with the 10th Canadian Mounted Rifles. His sister's handwriting is on the photograph. Contributed by his nephew, Lawrence J.S. Cross, a veteran of the Italian Campaign in the Second World War, 2nd field regiment, RCA. Mr. Cross' brother Stanley Norman Cross also served in Italy in the Second World War and was killed in action. -
Ring
My father found this ring going through his fathers' belongings, who was too young to have participated in the First World War. I visited Vimy on Rememberence Day and discovered the surname Sayer on the memorial. We do not know who the ring belonged to prior to it being in my father & grandfather's possession, but I suspect that it may have belonged to NC Sayer. I went through the entirety of Sayers that died in the First World War in Canada and NC Sayer was the only one to be commemorated on the Vimy Memorial. -
