He served in Ontario with the Lanark and Renfrew Scottish Regiment (Highlanders) – NPAM – from 13 May 1940 until he was integrated in the regular forces of that regiment on 16 June 1940, deployed to the 1st Midland Regiment in St. John, New Brunswick, then to the 1st Battalion, Royal Rifles of Canada on 19 October 1941 to fight in Hong Kong with Force C.

Rifleman GARNET SCOBIE is one of 12 members of the Royal Rifles of Canada, Royal Canadian Infantry Corps who are commemorated on this panel of the Sai Wan Memorial. He was one of 290 Canadian soldiers killed during the defense of Hong Kong, from December 8th to December 25th, 1941. -
