September 2012 - The flag was at the grave site when I arrived to lay the roses. A rose for each of his brothers and sisters, one of which was my grandfather. My grandmother still has the last letter that Uncle Jack wrote to her, dated February 14, 1945. For as long as I could remember my grandmothers birthday was always a solemn occasion, which I never understood until I visited Uncle Jack's grave. I never knew that he was killed on her birthday. -
