Killed in France- Gunner Marshall V. Sawler (above), son of Roland and Vera Sawler, Western Shore, on July 15 met instant death on the battlefields of France, valiantly standing by his gun. Twenty two years of age, he was well liked and remembered by his many friends. Enlisting on Nov. 5, 1942, he was sent overseas on July, 1943. Only the day previous to the sad news of his death, his last air mail letter home was received by Miss Peggy Knickle, revealing he landed in France on July 9. -
