Son of William Crowell.

On 21 September 1941, Lissa sailed with convoy OG-74 bound for Lisbon, Portugal, having set sail from Barry, Wales. At 23:20, U-201 opened fire with torpedoes north-north-west of the Azores. Two ships were hit and sunk, the Lissa and the Rhineland, in position 47°00'N/22°00'W. The captain of the Lissa, her 20 crew members and 5 gunners lost their lives.
