Son of John Snodgrass Henderson and Margaret Baird Watt of Dalry, Renfrewshire, Scotland. Husband of Hetty Elizabeth Shaw of Wallasey, Cheshire, England. Father of Stanley Henderson.
Brother of Private Allan S. Henderson, regimental number 12833, killed in action on 26 September 1915 in Flanders, France, while serving with the Royal Scots Fusiliers of the British Army.
Chief Engineer William Henderson served on the Rose Castle which was torpedoed at anchor, awaiting convoy WB-9, by U-518 off Bell Island, Conception Bay, Newfoundland, position 47°36'N/52°58'W.
