Son of William James Hughes and Mabel Vaughn Hughes, of Carleton Place, Ontario. Brother of Morley, Freda and Pilot Officer William Robert Hughes, RCAF, killed in action the 31 August 1941. The Town of Carleton Place remembered Private Hughes by naming a street in his honour.
