Baptized Moïse Maxime Mathias Demers. Son of Mathias Demers and Marie Anna Saint-Cyr from Demers Centre, Pontiac, Québec.

Enrolled at the 2nd District Depot in Toronto, Ontario, for the 42nd CA(E)BTC, 4 R Wing Company in Joliette, Quebec, on February 11, 1944, he was transferred to the 3rd Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment. He embarked for Great Britain on the 13th, arriving at his destination on the 25th. On March 26, he left for the Mediterranean theater of operations, landing in Italy on April 9. The same day, he was assigned to the 4th Battalion. He was wounded in action for the first time on September 14, 1944, in the Villa Belvedere sector, during the encirclement of Palazzo Paradiso. Returning to the regiment, he was seriously wounded in action a second time on December 11, 1944 during the assault on the Fosso Vetro canal between the Lamone and Bagnacavallo rivers near Traversara. He died on December 14, 1944 at 9:20 a.m. in a field hospital in Russi.
