Son of Patrick Joseph Roberts and Susan Rowe from Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

On 20 February 1941, Linaria set sail from Loch Ewe, Scotland, with convoy OB-228 and headed for Halifax, Nova Scotia. By the 22nd, the ships had dispersed and on the 24th, at 1:16 am, the Linaria was hit by a torpedo launched from U-96 265 miles (427 km) south of Reykjavik, Iceland, and sank in position 59°45'N/20°48'W. The captain, the 32 crew members and the two gunners lost their lives.
